This notorious weed that clogs waterways and suffocates fisheries, is not only edible in part, but is also super-abundant, and a valuable source of income exploited by many of the lakeside inhabitants and those living on the Tonle Sap, itself. Cambodians braid the dried stems into hammocks--somewhat of a dying tradition now--and also weave them into sandals, handbags, hot pads, coasters, baskets, bins, mats, and other useful items.
